
Location
The town is located in south-eastern Poland in Świętokrzyskie Voivodship. Convenient road connections make it easier to get to Kraków, Katowice, Warszawa, Lublin, Kielce or Łódź. The biggest Polish agglomerations are within a 200 km radius.
TRANSPORT ACCESSIBILITY
The important national road no. 9 (E 371) from Radom, via Rzeszow to the border crossing between Poland and Slovakia in Barwinek, runs through the city. Another important road – national road no. 42, runs through the three main industrial cities of the region’s north: Skarżysko-Kamienna, Starachowice and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, linking at the same time its main transit roads – national road no. 7 (Krakow – Warsaw – Gdańsk) with national road no. 74 (Łodź – Kielce – Polish/Ukrainian border crossing). The city’s connection with a network of main and international roads is the national road no. 9, which intersects with the following regional roads in the area of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski:
• Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski – Bałtow – Solec nad Wisłą – regional road no. 754
• Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski – Ożarow – Zawichost – Kosin – regional road no. 755
• Suchedniow - Bodzentyn- Nowa Słupia-Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski – regional road no. 751
Transit traffic runs mainly in the direction of the road no. 9.
THE LOCAL DEVELOPED PASSENGER TRANSPORT NETWORK STRENGTHENS THE CITY’S ROLE AND RANK IN THE REGION
Efficient and regular passenger transport is provided in the area of three poviats of the Świętokrzyski Region and
the Powiśle Region. This is a very important advantage to investors since thanks to a developed passenger transport
network, the region’s residents can get to the city within 30 minutes.
RAILWAY TRANSPORT
The double-track railway line running through the city links Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski with a big railway junction in Skarżysko-Kamienna and with Tarnobrzeg, Rzeszow and Przemyśl. Besides a passenger railway station, goods are reloaded here.
Railway line no. 25: Łodź Kaliska - Końskie - Stąporkow - Skarżysko Kamienna - Starachowice - Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski – Tarnobrzeg– Dębica.
By 2013, will continue modernisation of the railway line no. 25. The undertaking covers modernization of railway infrastructure to the speed V=120 km/h in passenger traffic, to the speed V=80 km/h in freight traffic, and obtaining axle load 221 kN. Additional plans include adaptation of infrastructure to the speed 140 – 160 km/h and use of passenger trains with deflected running gear.
OSTROWIEC ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKI IN THE SYSTEM OF NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND LOCAL ROADS.
Plans for the years 2011 – 2013 include construction of the ring road of Wąchock on the road no. 42. Construction of a passage through Starachowice on the road no. 42 is planned after 2013 . These tasks have been put on the Indicative List of the Operational Program – Development of Eastern Poland. Whereas the reserve includes construction of the ring road of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski after 2013.
The General Directorate of Main Roads and Motorways Branch in Kielce conducts study-project works on the ring road of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. The project entitled ”The ring road of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski” is on the list of individual projects of the Operational Program – Development of Eastern Poland as a reserve project. The project subject is construction of the 11-km-long ring road of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski within the main road no. 9, which will link the main road no. 9 with the main road no. 42, and further with the main road no. 7. The anticipated deadline of this undertaking is 2013-2015.
