Tourist offer
Sports and recreation have long-standing traditions in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. We aspire to the name of a city of sports and recreation. International sporting events were frequently held at the modern facilities of the swimming bath ”Rawszczyzna” and the municipal sports stadium KSZO. Multi-functional, illuminated training fields with artificial and natural surface provide a training base. Soon, the city’s sports offer will be enriched with a sports and entertainment hall, featuring almost 4,000 seats, and an athletic stadium being constructed as an investment project implemented by Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski Poviat. Multifunctional fields attached to education institutions are also being constructed in different parts of the city. Thanks to the systematically extended sports and recreational base, the football Youth Training Centre has been established in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.
The ”Gutwin” recreational centre along with a line park, which is an excellent place for spending one’s free time with the family, operates successfully here. The city is a very good launching pad for trips to the nearby tourist attractions in Ostrowiec Poviat and the oldest mountains in Poland - Świętokrzyskie Mountains with the Święty Krzyż Monastery and the Świętokrzyski National Park. 8 km north-east of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, there is the Nature-Archaeological Reserve in Krzemionki, covering almost 400 ha. In the plebiscite of the newspaper ”Gazeta Wyborcza”, ”Krzemionki” was recognised as ”the greatest tourist treasure in the Świętokrzyski Region”. The reserve features Europe’s oldest neolithic mine of flintstone. The underground 500-metre-long tourist trail presents the interiors of Neolithic pits, a reconstruction of miners’ campsite and flintstone workshops, and a mine shaft roofing dating back 5,000 years. An area of 1.5 ha features a reconstructed Neolithic village. In 1994, ”Krzemionki” was recognised as a Monument of History. A year later, this terrain became a nature reserve. Preparations are being made to put Krzemionki on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Jurassic Park in Bałtow is a popular tourist attraction of the vicinity of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. In 2007, 500,000 tourists visited to Bałtow. Poland’s first and Europe’s third Real-Live Museum of Porcelain in the historical town of Ćmielow is very popular among tourists. In the neighbourhood of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, one can find places connected with the eminent Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz. In the monumental ruins of the historical cardboard factory ”Witulin”, the Gombrowicz Picnic has been held for several years. Particularly noteworthy cultural-entertainment events are: Mira Kubasińska Blues-Rock Festival”The Great Fire” and Gombrowicz Picnic. Ostrowiec Poviat, attractive as regards its cultural heritage, natural endowments, as well as recreational and tourist advantages, is a great place for active tourism all the year round.
